Us vs Them
We live in the 5th greatest run state in America. We have a billion dollar surplus. We have 5.1 lowest unemployment rates, our median employment pay rate is 5th highest, and our poverty rate is the 5th lowest. North Dakota is number one and Illinois is number 50. With all this state has and we still can’t move past but we’ve always done it this way.
The gender debate in Minnesota…. the problem I have with Minnesota over all without involving the transgender issue. The only two sports that I would have a real issue with the male/female problem are football and wrestling. The rest of the sports that are still separated by gender in Minnesota are: Alpine Skiing, Basketball, Cross Country Run, Golf, Gymnastics, Hockey, Lacrosse, Nordic Skiing, Soccer, Softball, Swimming and Diving, Synchronized Swimming, Track and Field, Volley Ball. I would not have any problem with my children or grandchildren playing together in those sports.
Now, there are many schools in our state that have no girl sports and I feel that if a girl wants to play sports and if there is no other option for her in her town/city than she should be able to play with the boys and vice versa. Sports and Arts are just important to our children as Math and English if they wish to participate. There should also be the funding available to all schools to provide such programs other than football or boys sports.
The other thing is, I am so tired of college sports being so much more important than the students becoming educated.
My last comment, and this is kind of a shot in the arm and meant to be, the Minnesota Lynx our women’s professional basketball team, was the only Minnesota Professional team that won National Championships 3 out of the last 5 years. I am tired of men’s sports getting all the money, tired of us fighting with each other instead of trying to find a new way to fix it.
